Polarized lenses and UV protection: two different jobs

Polarization reduces certain reflections. UV protection concerns ultraviolet exposure. One label does not prove the other.

Polarization and UV protection describe different lens properties. Polarized lenses can reduce glare from reflective surfaces, while UV protection addresses ultraviolet radiation. A polarized label alone does not establish UV performance.

What to check before choosing

  • Look for clear UV protection information and relevant test documentation from the seller.
  • Check whether polarization suits your activities. Some screens can look different through polarized lenses.
  • Do not use lens darkness or colour as proof of UV protection.

A quick comparison

Feature What it describes
Polarization Filtering certain orientations of light to reduce some reflected glare.
UV protection Limiting ultraviolet transmission through the lens.
Lens tint Visible-light appearance and transmission; not proof of UV performance.

Do polarized lenses automatically protect against UV?

No. Confirm both properties for the specific product. Avoid assuming performance from a photograph or the word “polarized” alone.
